Steal a Brainrot Beginner's Guide: Start Strong

Updated 2026-10-19 · 4 min read

Steal a Brainrot is easy to pick up but surprisingly deep once other players start eyeing your base. This guide covers what you need to know in your first few sessions: how you earn money, how stealing works, how to keep your base safe and when a rebirth makes sense.

How the game works

The idea is simple. Brainrot characters appear on a conveyor belt in the middle of the map, and you buy them with in-game cash. Each brainrot you own sits in your base and earns money every second. The amount it earns is shown on the brainrot itself, so you can always see who your best earners are.

The catch is that your base isn't private. Other players can walk in, grab a brainrot and try to carry it back to their own base. You can do exactly the same to them. It plays a bit like capture the flag, and that tension is what makes the game fun.

Your first few minutes

Spend your starting cash right away

Cash sitting in your pocket doesn't earn anything. Buy the cheapest brainrots you can afford and fill your empty spots. Even low earners add up, and that early income is what pays for your next, better brainrot.

Keep an eye on the conveyor

Most brainrots on the belt are common, but rarer ones show up from time to time. When one appears and you can afford it, grab it quickly, because other players are watching the same belt. Higher rarities usually cost more but earn a lot more per second.

Upgrade instead of hoarding

Your base only has so much room. When it fills up, sell or swap out your weakest earners to make space for better ones. A single strong brainrot is often worth more than several weak ones, both for income and for trading later.

Using your base lock

Your base has a lock button that puts up a temporary barrier other players can't pass through. It only lasts a limited time, and once the timer runs out, anyone can walk in. A few habits make a big difference:

  • Lock your base whenever you head out to buy or steal.
  • Watch the timer and lock again as soon as it's ready.
  • Don't get stuck inside someone else's base when their lock comes on, because your own base is left unguarded while you're trapped. Respawning gets you out.
  • Each rebirth adds a little extra lock time, which makes defending easier as you progress.

Gear: slaps, traps and more

The in-game shop sells slaps and other "troll" gear for cash. A slap lets you hit a thief so they drop the brainrot they're carrying, which sends it back to its owner. Traps can be placed in your base to catch raiders before they reach your best brainrots. More powerful tools unlock as you rebirth, so check the shop again after each reset.

Some items cost Robux, but you don't need them to enjoy the game or to progress. If you do spend Robux, make sure you know exactly what you're getting first.

Stealing from other players

Stealing is a big part of how you grow, but it pays to be smart about it:

  • Pick your target. Look for bases whose lock is about to run out and that hold something worth the risk. Stealing low-value brainrots usually isn't worth the trouble.
  • Move fast and unpredictably. Once you grab a brainrot, run straight home. Jumping and changing direction makes you harder to hit.
  • Watch for traps. An open base can be a setup, especially if the owner is hiding nearby.
  • Expect to get hit sometimes. If someone slaps you while you're carrying a brainrot, you drop it and it goes back to its owner. That's normal, so just try again.

When should you rebirth?

A rebirth wipes your cash and your brainrots, but gives you a permanent income boost, unlocks new gear and adds lock time. Each rebirth level asks for certain things, usually a cash amount plus specific brainrots, and you can see the current requirements in the in-game rebirth menu.

There's no rule that says you must rebirth the moment you qualify. Many players wait until they're confident they can rebuild quickly, since the first stretch after a reset is when you earn the least. Read the requirements, plan ahead and rebirth when it feels right.

Quick tips for new players

  • Join events when they happen. Special events and weather can give brainrots mutations or traits that boost their income.
  • Don't go AFK with your best brainrots out in a busy public server.
  • Before trading, look up recent values so you know what your brainrots are worth.
  • Never give anyone your password, and ignore offers of "free" brainrots. They are almost always scams.

If you'd rather skip ahead, GetPets sells brainrots and a delivery agent hands them over inside the game. Just remember that a brainrot you bought can still be stolen like any other, so protect it with the same care.

Steal a Brainrot changes often, and new brainrots, gear and events arrive regularly. The basics in this guide have stayed the same through many updates, but always double-check the in-game menus for the latest details.
