Steal a Brainrot: Protect Your Base & Trade Safely
Updated 2026-10-19 · 4 min read
There are two very different ways to lose a brainrot. The first is getting it stolen in the game, which is part of the fun and something you can defend against. The second is getting scammed, which isn't part of the game at all and is almost always avoidable. This guide covers both.
Part 1: Defending your base
Time your base lock
Your base lock puts up a barrier that keeps other players out, but only for a limited time. When it runs out, your base is open to anyone. To get the most out of it:
- Lock your base every time you leave it, even for a quick trip to the conveyor belt.
- Keep an eye on the timer and lock again as soon as you can.
- Remember that each rebirth adds a bit of extra lock time, so defending gets easier as you progress.
Thieves watch lock timers too. If yours is about to run out, head home.
Stay close when it matters
As your income grows, your base becomes a bigger target. Players naturally go after bases with the most valuable brainrots. When your best brainrots are out, stay nearby, and avoid going AFK in busy public servers. Some gear can pull you out of your base or trap you, so even a locked base isn't a reason to walk away for long.
Use gear and traps
The shop sells gear you can use to defend yourself:
- Slaps let you hit a thief so they drop the brainrot they're carrying, which sends it back to you.
- Traps can be placed in your base, ideally right in front of your most valuable brainrots, to stop raiders in their tracks.
- Stronger defensive tools unlock at higher rebirth levels at the time of writing, so check the shop after each rebirth.
Be careful who you let in
If you allow friends to pass through your lock, remember that they can steal too. Only give that access to people you really trust.
Don't get trapped in someone else's base
If you're inside another player's base when their lock comes on, you can get stuck there while your own base sits unprotected. If that happens, respawn to get out and head home.
Part 2: Trading safely
Use the built-in trade system
Steal a Brainrot has its own trading feature, where both players add their items and confirm the trade. It helps prevent the kind of scams that were common back when players traded by "stealing" from each other on purpose. Use it every time.
Before you confirm, check everything in the trade window:
- Is it the exact brainrot you agreed on?
- Does it have the right mutation and traits? A plain copy can look similar at a glance.
- Did anything change at the last second? Some scammers swap an item just before the final confirm.
Avoid "trust trades"
Any deal that relies on someone keeping a promise is risky. Watch out for offers like:
- "Let me steal yours and I'll give you mine after."
- "You send first, I'll send right after."
- "Drop it in my base, I'll pay you back next server."
If it isn't in the trade window, it isn't protected.
Know what your brainrot is worth
Scammers love players who don't know their own values. Check a recent value list before you trade, and don't let anyone rush you. A real trader will wait while you double-check.
Part 3: Common scams to watch for
- Password and code requests. No real player, shop or staff member needs your password, 2-Step Verification codes or browser cookies. Roblox says it will never ask for your password outside its own login page.
- "Free brainrot" offers. Giveaways, generators and websites promising free brainrots or free Robux are a common way to steal accounts. Never log in through a link someone sends you.
- Fake middlemen and fake staff. With built-in trading, you shouldn't need a middleman. Be very wary of anyone claiming to be an admin, moderator or "official" middleman, and report people pretending to be Roblox staff.
- Off-platform payments. Strangers in DMs or chat servers asking you to pay with gift cards, payment apps or crypto for a brainrot are a big risk. If they disappear, Roblox can't help you get anything back.
- Cheat scripts and downloads. Programs that promise auto-farming or easy steals can carry malware that steals your account, and using cheats can get you banned.
- Lookalike links. Always make sure you're on the real Roblox website before you sign in.
When you buy from GetPets, delivery happens inside the game and you only share your Roblox username, never your password.
If something goes wrong
If you think someone got into your account, change your password right away, turn on 2-Step Verification, sign out of other sessions and contact Roblox Support. Report scammers using Roblox's report tools so they can't target the next player. If you have a problem with a GetPets order, reach out to their support team.
Game features change often, so double-check details like lock timers and gear in the game itself.
